A coal processing apparatus that will allow online sampling of gases generated during coal processing is operational. Improvements have been made in the lasers and the GC/MS. Lignin impregnated with ZnCl/sub 2/, coal extracted with liquid CO/sub 2/, and isolated resinite and fusinite were pyrolyzed. A thermal model of the pyrolysis is being developed.
