Recent results on the m-particle threshold in a simplified m..-->..m scattering theory with no subchannel interaction are reviewed and a related qualitative discussion of the singularities of the S matrix and Green's functions in the general theory is presented. The analysis suggests in particular that a conjecture by Sato on holonomicity should be valid only for a special class of singularities.
