An 800-MeV proton beam and the High Resolution Proton Spectrometer were used to measure the elastic and inelastic differential cross sections and analyzing powers of scattering from /sup 58/Ni, /sup 60/Ni, and /sup 64/Zn. Scattering angles ranged from 5/sup 0/ to about 20/sup 0/ in the center-of-mass frame. The data were used to analyze the spin orbit deformation, to evaluate a recent data to-data formula for analyzing power in terms of cross section and to search for spin-flip states which were seen in an earlier low-energy experiment. The results of the spin-orbit deformation were disappointing in that no unambiguous determination could be made. A modification of the data-to-data formula was shown to predict analyzing powers quite well for high collective states. The spin-flip states were seen, but the statistics of the data allowed only very approximate determinations of the crosss sections.
