Substitution-induced superstructures in Cu(1)-doped YBa/sub 2/(Cu/sub 1/minus//ital x/M/subx//)/sub 3/O/sub 7/ ceramic (/ital M/=trivalent cation)

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)

Electrostatic calculations and conceptual arguments are presented that indicate that a (3/times/3) ordered oxygen-atom superstructure in the Cu(1)-O plane may play an important role in attaining tetragonal symmetry when +3 cations favoring six coordination are selectively substituted in Cu(1)-doped YBa/sub 2/(Cu/sub 1/minus//ital x/M/subx//)/sub 3/O/sub 7/ ceramics.
