This paper discusses how companies in the printing industry are looking more to the use of permanent total enclosures (PTEs) as a means to demonstrate compliance with new Clean Air Act standards for hazardous air pollutants. The advantages of this method is that by following design guidelines and meeting the EPA five point criteria for a fully enclosed room, then one may assume 100% capture of contaminants. This factor often raises the advantages of this method over other control methods which put the responsibility upon the user to demonstrate compliance with required control levels.
