Solar energy system performance evaluation, October 1980-April 1981

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6255169
The Terrell E. Moseley, Inc. is a single-story, concrete block office building with 1670 square feet of conditioned space located in Virginia. The retrofit active solar energy system is designed to supply 65% of the total heating. The system is equipped with 400 square feet of hydronic flat-plate collectors, a 2000-gallon steel tank for heat storage, and an auxiliary gas-fired boiler. The system can operate at low collection/storage temperature levels or utilize solar energy directly from storage in an oversized duct coil located in the system air handling unit. The measured solar fraction was 80%, compared to a predicted 82%. The solar savings ratio, accounting for system operating energy, was 65%. (LEW)
