A FM mode-locked Ndatsub 0.5atLaatsub 0.5atP/sub 5/O/sub 14/ laser excited by a cw dye laser has been constructed. The 1052-nm laser pulses, occurring at a 480-MHz repetition rate, had widths as short as 14 ps, determined by a correlation measurement. With appropriate detuning of the cavity round-trip interval, uniform amplitude FM output was obtained, with bandwidth up to 240 GHz.
