The development of wind turbine technology in California is discussed. Consideration is given to the large-scale experiments being carried out by the California Energy Commission to investigate the capital costs, and power capacity of a 4000 unit wind turbine farm near Altamont, California. The financial impetus behind wind farm development is also discussed, with attention given to the need for tax incentives and an expanded federal role in financing wind power feasibility studies. 15 references.
