Engine idle advance

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6254651
This patent describes an internal combustion engine having a throttle to control the fuel flow to the engine. The engine has a predetermined idle speed. The improvement consists of: an air actuated cylinder; a linkage between the cylinder and the throttle whereby actuation of the air actuated cylinder moves the linkage and opens the throttle to increase the flow of fuel to the engine and increase the revolutions per minute thereof; a solenoid valve for controlling the flow of air into and out of the cylinder; and a control module for controlling the solenoid valve including a control module for causing periodic actuation and non-actuation of the air actuated cylinder whereby the internal combustion engine is periodically operated at a speed higher than the predetermined idle speed during periods of idle to reduce the accumulation of combustion products in the internal combustion engine; and the internal combustion engine being operatively associated with a vehicle having parking brake means whereby actuation of the parking brake means actuates the control module.
