General Electric's low-Btu coal-gas combined-cycle power plant offers improved operating flexibility, reliability, and efficiency over earlier designs. The power plant consists of four high-temperature, water-cooled PRD-6 gas turbines that burn coal-derived fuel gas and a steam bottoming cycle with one reheat steam turbine. The PRD-6 turbine has a 12:1 pressure ratio, a compressor inlet-air flow of 300 lb/s, and a 2600/sup 0/F firing temperature. The overall plant design has the following performance characteristics: (1) coal consumption of 313,848 lb/hr at 10,788 Btu/lb HHV (Illinois No. 6, as received), (2) gas turbine output of 277,200 kW (69,300 kW/turbine), (3) steam turbine output of 140,200 kW, (4) net plant output of 406,900 kW, and (5) net thermal efficiency (HHV) of 41.02% (coal pile to bus bar). In the gasification plant's water-cooled fixed-bed coal gasifier, the partial oxidation of coal produces a combustible off-gas that is cleaned and fed to the turbines.
