Development of a distribution transformer that is not subject to catastrophic failure

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6253733
Inorganically insulated, oil-free transformers offer potential for improving the safety of distribution systems. Laboratory tests - as well as initial results of field trials - indicate that a 25-kVA pole-mounted unit developed in this study will eliminate the rapid pressure increases that lead to catastrophic failures of conventional transformers.
