Process for preparing submicron/nanosize ceramic powders from precursors incorporated within a polymeric foam
A process is described for producing at least one of ceramic powders and metal powders comprising: calcining a polymeric foam comprising metal cations homogeneously incorporated within a foam cell structure of said polymeric foam at a calcination temperature for a time required for complete removal of all organics and formation of a crystal phase, producing at least one of an oxide powder and a metal powder, said polymeric foam produced by mixing an organic precursor comprising a mixture of an isocyanate and a hydroxyl-containing compound with at least one metal cation salt, each of said metal cation salts being soluble in a solvent which is miscible in said organic precursor, producing a foam mixture, and hardening said foam mixture.
