Subsidence in United States due to ground-water withdrawal

Journal Article · · J. Irrig. Drain. Div., Am. Soc. Civ. Eng.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6253571
Land subsidence due to groundwater withdrawal in the U.S. is discussed. The characteristic geologic environment for such subsidence is that of young unconsolidated sediments of high porosity laid down in alluvial, lacustrine, or shallow marine environments. Subsidence ranges from 0.3 m at Savannah, Ga., to 9.0 m in the San Joaquin Valley, Calif. (10 graphs, 8 maps, 24 references, 1 table)
