Polymer concretes - Criteria for successful restoration and protection of concrete

Arguments can occur by simply mentioning polymer concretes in the construction industry because of the variety of meanings placed on them depending upon the industry segment that is being referenced. In this paper polymer concretes are specifically referring to mixtures of thermosetting resins with some aggregate blend, which when cured gives a matrix that provides physical and chemical characteristics significantly different than that of cementitious concrete systems. This in itself encompasses a variety of applications from bridge and road repair to applications in highly corrosive environments. The latter of these is the focal point of this paper. Typical applications are the restoration and protection of process slabs and foundations, trenches, sumps, pump pedestal, and complete containment systems.
