Determination of effective thermal conductivity in fibrous composites with imperfect thermal contact between constituents
- Univ. da Beira Interior, Covilha (Portugal)
An analytical-numerical method for the determination of the effective thermal conductivity of unidirectional fibrous composites is proposed. The method enables one to take into account imperfect thermal contact between the fibers and matrix and leads to an explicit formula for the effective thermal conductivity of composite. To use the method, the geometry of regular fiber distribution and the thermal properties of the constituents must be known. The method is applicable irrespective of the fiber volume fraction. Two approaches are used in the method. In the first approach, special boundary conditions between fibers and matrix are adopted. In the second approach, an intermediate thin layer between fibers and matrix is introduced. Numerical results for the case of a square fiber array are presented.
