Photocatalytic decomposition of nitrous oxide on Cu ion-containing ZSM-5 catalyst

In the present article, the authors report the photocatalytic decomposition of N[sub 2]O into N[sub 2] and O[sub 2] at 278 K over a Cu ion-exchanged ZSM-5 catalyst. The mechanism of the N[sub 2]O photodecomposition is discussed on the basis of the N[sub 2]O photodecomposition rate dependence on the irradiated light wavelength and on the diffuse reflectance spectrum (DRS) of the Cu/ZSM-5 catalyst. The role of the electronic excitation of monovalent Cu ion (Cu[sup +]) in the N[sub 2]O photodecomposition is emphasized. 28 refs., 2 figs.
