Misener sandstone in portions of Lincoln and Creek Counties, Oklahoma. Part 3
Petrologically, the Misener is a fine- to medium-grained, quartzose sandstone with subangular to subrounded grains cemented by dolomite. Angularity on the grains is due to overgrowths on quartz grains. Three wells reported as producing from the Misener actually produce from the unconformity (BOOCH) sand. The basis of this conclusion is from petrologic and x-ray pattern differences between samples from one of these wells and the Misener. Another determining factor is the absence of the Woodford over this sand. Production from the Misener in the area was from only one well. This well produced a total of 38,555 bbl of oil from 8 ft of sand situated on a small structural high. Criteria necessary for the production of hydrocarbons from the Misener are good porosity and permeability, and location in areas where the woodford shale seal has not been removed from over the sand entirely.
