Phase locked dielectric ridge gas laser
A phase locked ridge waveguide gas laser is described contained within a housing comprising: ceramic body means having a cavity with a length, width and depth formed therein; gas lasing means contained within the cavity; excitation means disposed on the ceramic body means for providing radio frequency excitation of the gas lasing means producing an electrical discharge therein; mirror means positioned relative to the housing means so as to provide lasing of the electrical discharge; and ridge means located with the cavity, extending along the length and forming therein a plurality of laser resonators providing a guided mode optical signal in each of the resonators, the ridge means further providing less than total separation between the resonators, thereby forming a gap extending over at least a portion of the length and providing a direct path in the gas lasing means between the plurality of laser resonator, for phase locking the guided mode optical signals; and the excitation means including an electrode extending over the ridge means, whereby the radio frequency excitation extends into the gap.
