The He--Ne//sup 127/I/sub 2/-laser power profile is studied. It is shown that deformation of the He--Ne-laser power profile observed with the introduction of an iodine absorbing cell in the cavity is due to relatively strong absorption by the wing of the P(33) line. The observed deformation of the power profile can be the cause of additional shifts of the frequency of He--Ne//sup 127/I/sub 2/ lasers. Saturation of absorption in /sup 127/I/sub 2/ in the 0.63-..mu..m range is studied. It is established that estimate of the parameter of relative saturation of absorption of 0less than or equal toaless than or equal to0.4 in /sup 127/I/sub 2/ in the 0.63-..mu..m range outside the P(33) line is valid. The conclusion is drawn based on this estimate of the value of the parameter a that absorption in /sup 127/I/sub 2/ in the 0.63-..mu..m range outside the P(33) line introduces linear losses into the laser cavity.
