A new econometric model for allocating aggregate consumer expenditures on energy in the US during the 1958-1978 period incorporates time series data on aggregate quantities of energy consumed and energy prices. It also includes time series on the level and distribution of total energy expenditure and the demographic characteristics of the population. The model incorporates cross section data on the allocation of energy expenditure among types of energy for households with different demographic characteristics. 31 references, 6 figures, 13 tables.
