Equilibria, nonequilibria, and natural waters, 2nd ed

Book ·
OSTI ID:6242511
This second edition presents the chemical, geological, and hydrological principles of aquatic chemistry from first principles to the complex solutions and solids found in the oceans, rivers, lakes, and laboratories. Critical reviews and overviews of the field are presented. Some titles in Volume one include: A Chemical Review and the Earth; Geochemistry; An Oceanic Overview; Thermodynamics for Earth Scientists; and Electrolyte Solutions. There is a section on suggested readings. This volume also examines processes in natural waters within the framework of thermodynamics and heterogeneous kinetics, and presents serious research applications. Acids, new solid-solution equilibrium work, complexes, redox reactions, the geochemistry of trace metals, and gas-water interactions are reviewed. In Volume 2, papers entitled Properties of Acids and the CO/sub 2/ System in Aqueous Solutions; Carbonic Acid in the Oceans; Solid-Solution Interactions; Kinetics and Crystal Forms of Carbonates in Solution; and Solubilities of Carbonates and Related Processes, are presented. Metal complexes, Redox reactions and geochemistry are highlighted subjects. Gases and an overview of natural solutions are included as subject matter.
