Selectivity of alumina-chromium catalysts in dehydrogenation of higher n-paraffins

Journal Article · · Pet. Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
A study was made of the effect of adding lithium to alumina-chromium catalysts and coking on the selectivity of these catalysts in dehydrogenation of higher linear paraffinic hydrocarbons. When carrying out the reaction at atmospheric pressure lithium, in contrast with potassium, does not change the selectivity of catalysts according to mono-olefins (potassium reduces it), while on increasing pressure both lithium and potassium increase this selectivity. Under the conditions studied, coking of catalysts reduces selectivity with conversions of up to 14% and increases it with higher conversions.
