Core-valence, self-trapped exciton and Ce{sup 3+}-luminescences in pure and doped LiBaF{sub 3} crystals were determined on the basis of analysis of the time resolved emission and excitation spectra. It is shown that excitation of Ce-luminescence is caused both by carriers capture at or near activator ions and by energy transfer mechanisms. Parameters of the Ce{sup 3+} emission and n-{gamma} discrimination ability allow to use the LiBaF{sub 3}(Ce) crystals as scintillators.
