Sandia shock thermodynamics applied research facility

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6236369
A brief description of the Sandia Shock Thermodynamics Applied Research Facility is given. Three different smoothbore guns are used to launch projectiles for controlled planar impact studies. Combined pressure-shear loading conditions can also be obtained through use of an intervening anisotropic crystal. Time-resolved interferometric and holographic instrumentation is used for diagnostics. This facility has the unique capability of providing time-resolved measurements in shock loaded specimens over the stress range 0.1 to 700 GPa.
