This paper presents information on the regulations for radionuclides and chemicals in the environment. Included are detailed information on current and proposed standards, recommendations, guidances for limiting routine and accidental radiation exposures of the public, and a review of certain laws and regulations intended primarily for limiting exposures of the public to non-radioactive hazardous materials. Limits on risk to the public embodied in laws and regulations are emphasized. Risk is only basis for comparing potential impacts from exposure to radionuclides and other hazardous materials.
