The infrared photodissociation spectrum of Ar.BCl/sub 3/ is reported. Spectra obtained by using a c-w CO/sub 2/ laser are dominated by homogeneous broadening due to vibrational predissociation of excited van der Waals molecules. The predissociation lifetime of Ar.BCl/sub 3/ containing one quantum of vibrational excitation in the BCl/sub 3/..nu../sub 3/ mode is between 1 and 3 ps. Results presented are discussed in terms of the efficiency and isotopic selectivity of the photodissociation process.
