Discussions of economic approach to oil production and gas allocation in continuous gas lift

This work is written in response to Economic approach to oil production and gas allocation in continuous gas lift, by E.P. Kanu, J. Mach, and K.E. Brown. Optimization of lift gas in phases, has become increasingly important as energy and gas costs have increased. The subject article addressed this and a method was presented for resolving the problem of injection gas allocation. As suggested, the optimal injection gas must be considered for 2 cases: (1) the unlimited and (2) the limited gas injection compression systems. In design, the unlimited compression is usually assumed and various size systems must be investigated. Thus, in using the Kanu et al. method for unlimited gas, the cost-to-gas-lift must include the prorata share of compression plus the normal operating cost. Also, a future prediction of well performance needs to be considered.
