Mechanical testing of carbon foam

A theoretical analysis has been performed which predicts the effect of eccentric loading on measured mechanical properties. A fixture which minimizes bending and eccentric loading has been described. Preliminary results of compression tests on low density carbon foam have also been reported. Finally, an experiment to verify the predicted effects of misalignment and eccentric loading has been conducted. The results of this experiment are consistent with values predicted by theory.
