Handling liquids in offshore gas lines gets new approach

In the natural gas pipeline industry, getting your feet wet may mean more than just going offshore for new supplies of natural gas. It may mean the design, construction, and operation of 2-phase flow or wet-gas offshore systems capable of handling large volumes of slugged liquid hydrocarbons. As larger quantities of natural gas have become available offshore around the world, and with proven onshore reserves steadily declining, more natural gas transmission pipeline companies are venturing offshore to obtain these supplies for their market areas. In what is largely a seller's market for the producers, offshore gas purchase contracts have become, in effect, transportation agreements whereby all the condensible hydrocarbons are transported ashore in 2-phase-flow pipelines..
