Analyzing powers for the reaction {pi}{sup {minus}}{ital {rvec p}}{r arrow}{pi}{sup 0}{ital n} were measured at an incident pion energy of {ital T}{sub {pi}{sup {minus}}}=161 MeV with a transversely polarized proton target over the angular range of about 20{degree}--60{degree}. The results are well described by calculations based on current sets of {pi}{ital N} phase shifts.
