Device for controlling ignition timing in internal combustion engine

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6228496
A device is described for controlling ignition timing in a multi-cylindered internal combustion engine, comprising: pressure sensors disposed in the vicinity of each combustion chamber of the engine for detecting pressure variation in the chamber; a crankshaft angle sensor disposed in the vicinity of a rotating member of the engine for detecting the angular position of the crankshaft; filtering means connected to the pressure sensors, the filtering means for passing pressure sensor output signals in a transmission band extending up to and including knocking frequencies; pulse generating means connected to the filtering means for generating a pulse at every peak output by the pressure sensors; knocking and maximum pressure angle detecting means; ignition timing calculating means; and ignition means connected to the ignition timing calculating means for igniting a fuel and air mixture in each combustion chamber.
