Three-in-one vortex shedding flowmeter
An apparatus is described for measuring fluid flow comprising: a body including a flow passage; a vortex generator of an elongated cylindrical shape disposed across a first cross section of the flow passage; and a planar member disposed generally parallel to the vortex generator across a second cross section of the flow passage on a plane generally parallel to the central axis of the flow passage, wherein at least one extremity of the planar member is secured to the wall of the flow passage in an isolated arrangement from the vortex generator; and a transducer means secured to the body including a force transmitter member extending from the transducer means in an isolated arrangement from the vortex generator, wherein the force transmitter member is connected to the other extremity of the planar member opposite to the one extremity by a mechanical coupling; wherein the transducer means provides signals related to alternating lift forces on the planar member exerted by vortices shed from two sides of the vortex generator in an alternating pattern as a measure of fluid flow through the flow passage.
