Coexistence of antiferromagnetism and superconductivity in YBa/sub 2/(CU/sub 1/minus//ital x//Fe/sub /ital x//)/sub 3/O/sub 7/ only for /ital x/ around 0. 10

YBa/sub 2/(Cu/sub 1/minus//ital x//Fe/sub /ital x//)/sub 3/O/sub 7/ compounds for 0less than or equal to/ital x/less than or equal to0.30 show a continuous orthorhombic-tetragonal phase transition at /ital x/approx.0.05. Both the diagmagnetic onset temperature /ital T//sub /ital c// and the effective iron moment decrease with increasing /ital x/. Coexistence of antiferromagnetism and superconductivity is observed only for /ital x/=0.10 and 0.12 as determined by magnetic-susceptibility measurements. The antiferromgnetic order may result from the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction.
