The effect of substituents on the electronic structure and reactivity of free phenylthio radicals in dimerization processes was studied by quantum-chemical methods. It was concluded that the introduction of both donating and withdrawing substituents leads to an increase in the stability of the radicals and hinders the formation of the respective disulfides.
