A compound matrix for solar collection is described comprising a plurality of hollow blocks which are at least partially transparent, each block having first and second walls with respect to solar radiation, said first and second walls being connected to one another by sidewalls to define an internal chamber, each comprises first and second half bodies with respect to radiation and are mirror images, said sidewalls having wherein each internal chamber of a block is in communication with the internal chamber of adjacent blocks, said connected to adjacent apertures by (ring means, adjacent sidewalls attached by structural bonding means, said ring) means and chambers arranged to define a plurality of continuous intersecting passages extending the length and breadth of said matrix, and means for circulating a fluid through said matrix.
