New cat cracking catalyst for higher octanes. [FLEXICAT catalysts, FLEXICAT I]

Conference · · Natl. Pet. Refiners Assoc., (Tech. Pap.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6221230
Improved cracking catalysts can be an attractive route to higher cat naptha octanes and can be used to complement the feedstock and process changes needed to meet the current clear octane targets as allowable lead levels are reduced. A proprietary Exxon cracking catalyst with outstanding properties for producing both higer Research and higher Motor clear octane numbers was commercialized in an extended test in the No. 3 FCC unit at the Baton Rouge Refinery of Exxon Company, USA. Research and Motor clear octanes were increased by 3.5 and 1.5 units, respectively, over those obtained with a standard catalyst. Variations of the basic catalyst, which provide a different balance between activity/selectivity and octane potential, have also been tested. 3 refs.
