In Texas, 6 projects are under way to follow up depleted waterflood fields with miscible flooding. According to records on file with the Texas Railroad Commission in Austin, the trend now is to install a miscible-displacement flood in a field after it has been almost depleted by waterflooding. The real obstacle in miscible displacement has always been a matter of economics. Of the 6 new projects now operating in Texas, Socony Mobil Oil Co. is operating 4. Pan American Petroleum Corp. is operator for another miscible-drive test, and Shell Oil Co. is conducting the other. Mobil's biggest test in on a 480-acre area in the West Ranch (Glasscock) Field in Jackson County. In the test, Mobil is using a gas-driven LPG slug to float downstructure and clean up the reservoir. Shell Oil Co. is operating a pilot project in Scarborough Field of Winkler County in the Yates reservoir. LPG and dry gas will be injected in the formation. Pan American Petroleum Corp. is conducting still another miscible test in the Burnell Field in Karnes County. This project was approved in February for a 75-acre project in the Reklaw sand.
