Ambiguity of calculations in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model and its singular relation to the linear [sigma] model

It is shown by elementary means that the calculation in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model of the ratio [ital m][sub [sigma]][sup 2]/[ital m][sub [ital f]][sup 2] is ambiguous, and the ambiguity is not removed by doing the calculation in a singular limit ([ital Z][sub 3],[ital Z][sub 4]=0) of the linear [sigma] model.
