Performance of the required technical calculations to optimize the extractive rectification (ER) process in removal of paraffins, naphthenes and olefins from benzene requires knowledge of the functional relationship between the relative volatility ..cap alpha.. of the substances removed and the type of solvent and its concentration X/sub s/ in the ER column. It has been shown to be possible to analyze ER by using experimental data on the vapor-liquid equilibrium in dilute solutions of the impurities in the main feedstock components and the solvent. A mathematical description is proposed for the isobaric vapor-liquid equilibrium for the paraffin-naphthene-olefin series and dilute solutions of them in benzene and the polar solvents N,N-dimethyl formamide, N-methyl pyrrolidone and dimethyl sulfoxide. The equations may be used to calculate the multicomponent extractive rectification process in the removal of paraffins, naphthenes and olefins from benzene.
