Two stage slagging gasifier

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6215746
A two stage coal gasifier is described having an elongated gasifier chamber through which gas is made to flow. The elongated gasifier chamber is defined by elongated members interconnected to extend in parallel relation one to another. The elongated gasifier chamber has an opening formed adjacent one end through which the gas after flowing through the elongated gasifier chamber exits from the two stage coal gasifier and has centrally located slag tap opening formed at the other end through which the slag formed in the two stage coal gasifier exits. A combustor fuel injection means is located at a first elevation with the elongated gasifier chamber operative for injecting carbonaceous material. Reductor fuel injection means is located at a second elevation within the elongated gasifier chamber operative for injecting carbonaceous material. The improvement comprises baffle means mounted within the elongated gasifier chamber at a third elevation located between the combustor fuel injection means and the reductor fuel injection means.
