MSHA streamlines equipment approval and certification

Journal Article · · Coal Min. Process.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6212674
The author attempts to define the role of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) as the ever-present watchdog of American miners' health and safety in two major ways: federal (MSHA) inspectors visit US mines several times a year to monitor compliance with regulations, including permissibility requirements and procedures; and MSHA conducts approval and certification activities on all hazardous instrumentation and equipment to be used in underground coal mining. Now that MSHA has achieved the latest in test apparatus and procedures, the author believes there is a challenge to improve the approval and certification process even more in the years ahead.
