Radiative decay of surface plasmons

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6212454
Experimental measurements of optical absorption by silver particles modeled as oblate spheroids display two resonances at two different frequencies and polarizations. Two dipolar surface plasmons are responsible for these resonances. These surface plasmons correspond to charge oscillations on the major axis (l=1,m=1) and on the minor axis (l=1,m=0). The analogous cases of symmetric and antisymmetric oscillation on a thin film are also shown. The dispersion curves for the modes split for thin films and are shown.
