Coulomb excitation of the giant dipole resonance with helium projectiles

Distorted-wave Born approximation calculations of differential cross sections for inelastic excitation of the giant dipole resonance with helium projectiles through the Coulomb field are presented. Competition with the nuclear excitation of the giant monopole resonance is discussed.
