Acoustically measured penetration profiles for a molten metallic pool into river-stone concrete. [LMFBR]

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6210266
An acoustic pulse-echo technique has been used as part of the instrumentation package for the medium-scale (100 kg), metallic pool/concrete interaction tests that are in progress at Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (KfK). The acoustic data provides real-time plots of the position of the melt-concrete interface and permits deductions about some of the conditions that exist at the interface. Penetration rates as large as 25 mm/min were observed.
