Arctic submarine pipeline protection is calculated by optimization model

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6207914
Threat of ice scour is a major design consideration for submarine arctic pipelines. An optimization model can be used to determine protective strategies for such a proposed pipeline. The model seeks to achieve a balance between the economy and the safety of the pipeline. In addition to deep trenching, it considers valve segmentation and twinning of the pipeline. It also provides optimal configuration and values of trench depth and valve spacing.
