This paper reports the electrochemical behavior of ferrous sulfide in molten electrolytes of LiCl-KCl (20.0, 41.5, and 55.0 mole % KCl) and LiF-LiCl (69.5 mole % LiCl) at 673-823 K. The study was carried out by taking potentiodynamic and pulse galvanostatic polarization curves employing a three-electrode cell. The authors used cp LiCl x H/sub 2/O and KCl, analytical grade LiF, and pure FeS. The ferrous sulfide electrodes were prepared by compressing FeS on a nickel screen at a pressure of 4 x 10/sup 9/ Pa. Three waves were found on the cathodic part of the polarization curve taken a 1 mV/sec and 793 K, using molten LiCl-KCl (41.5 mole % KCl), with scanning over a potential range of 1.5 to 2.1 V against a lithium reference electrode.
