Retrograde vaporization of residual condensation in storage field development

According to a concept based on phase equilibria, rock mechanics, and fluid flow properties in porous rock formations, native gas reservoirs, when depleted, will produce some condensate along with natural gas that will be retained in the porous rock; when the reservoir is converted to storage, repressurization can revaporize this immobile condensate and significantly enrich the hydrocarbon content of the injected storage gas. Unless measures are taken to handle the enriched gas, problems in maintaining gas quality - particularly subsequent condensation in transmission and distribution systems - will occur during the first few years of storage-field operation.
