Observation of the ground-state band of /sup 234/Th using the /sup 232/Th(/sup 18/O,/sup 16/O) reaction

The ground-state rotational band of /sup 234/Th is established up to I/sup ..pi../ = 10/sup +/ (12/sup +/) by in-beam ..gamma..-ray spectroscopy. Heavy-ion transfer reactions are shown to be useful to investigate otherwise unaccessible neutron-rich actinide nuclides.
