Accurate prediction and corrections of gellation problems in oilwell cement

Conference · · Soc. Pet. Eng. AIME, Pap.; (United States)

Gel strength and rheological properties are used to determine certain characteristics of oilwell cement slurries. Historically, rheological measurements of these cement slurries have been used to determine their pumping characteristics. However, the use of standard rheologies, plastic viscosity (..mu.. /SUB p/ ) and yield point (y /SUB p/ ) alone have not been sufficient to explain the gellation problems. Because of this a modified gel strength procedure has been developed, that together with API rheology tests can be used to accurately predict gellation problems with oilwell cement slurries.
