Title: Structure of oxide CoMo/. gamma. -Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ hydrodesulfurization catalysts an XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and DRS (diffuse reflectance spectroscopy) study

Journal Article · · J. Catal.; (United States)

The study provided evidence for the existence of five different species on the catalysts, i.e., molybdenum in multilayer polymolybdate structures similar to MoO/sub 3/ bulk; a molybdenum(VI) monolayer; a cobalt-molybdenum bilayer; Co/sub 3/O/sub 4/ crystallites; and cobalt aluminate, CoAl/sub 2/O/sub 4/. The existence and distribution of these species depended on preparation method, metal ratios, and calcination conditions. The monolayer molybdenum improves the dispersion of cobalt, which forms crystallites in the absence of the monolayer.
